Invited Presentations and Workshops
Each year I provide invited addresses and workshops at several state, regional and national conferences, as well as organization-specific events on several topics. Presentations involve a combination of PowerPoint slides, embedded video clips and oral presentation with Q&A. Occasionally presentations can be combined with case consultation depending on specific circumstances.
Generally such presentations need to be scheduled 3-6 months in advance. Sept-November and April-June are the busiest periods of the year and require the most lead time.
Presentation Topics:
• Individualized Autism Early Intervention: Blended Naturalistic and Discrete Trial Approaches
• Early Intervention and Brain Development
• Freedom from Meltdowns
• Overcoming Compulsive Behavior in Autism
Workshops:
• Autism Early Intervention
• Medication Management of Behavioral Challenges in Autism

Web Site Changes
This website is undergoing several changes which you will notice over the next few weeks if you are a regular visitor. The menu will be simplified with a few major headings and several subheadings. This should improve readbility of menu items. The template for the overall site is changing to make it easier find what you're looking for. Pages will feature a new forward-looking abstract image at the top of each page. There will be other changes you may notice after you use the site for awhile, like a glossary and a few behind the scenes bells and whistles. Pages on the site should automatically adjust as you change the size of your browser window. There may be a few glitches, so be patient. Within a few weeks everything should be converted over from the old site and working consistently (keep your fingers crossed).
This week in Autism History: 1948: E.G. (Ted) Carr was born in Toronto, CA August 20, 1948 and died in a tragic automobile accident June 20, 2009. He joined Stony Brook University in 1976. Ted Carr was designated Leading Professor by the State University of New York in 2000. He made
numerous major contributions to improving the lives of people with autism, but is perhaps best known for his work with Durand on communicative functions of challenging behavior, and his landmark article about the motivation for self-injurious behavior (Psychological Bulletin 1977; 84:800-16) which was a spring-board for using functional analysis and assessment procedures to understand and treat people with autism and challenging behavior.
